Umbila is a 20 minute drive from Inhambane, a rather sleepy city otherwise known as Terra de Boa Gente.
--- LAM, Mozambique's national carrier, has flights from Maputo and Johannesburg to Inhambane seven days a week, taking just one hour / an hour and a half. Each leg typically costs $125-$140.
--- If you are coming from Johannesburg, the flight is direct to Inhambane on some days or via Vilankulo on others. Airlink also has a regular Jo'Burg/Vilankulo service which is a three hour taxi ride from our place.
--- If you are flying into Maputo from Europe, the easiest route is to fly via Doha, Addis Ababa or Lisbon, and then fly straight up to Inhambane on LAM. Jo'burg, of course, has all the major carriers.
Pick ups from Inhambane Airport to Umbila are $10 per person, each way.
One important note, if you are driving to Umbila: the final mile is a sand track, which requires a 4x4.
